Childrens University

Children’s University

Bearwood Primary and Nursery School has embarked on the innovative ‘Children’s University Programme’ for all of our KS2 children. We are one of the first schools in the Poole area to take part in this venture. The nationwide programme provides youngsters are involved in a wide range of learning activities outside of the school day and during lunchtimes.

How it works?

Children’s University is for all children in years 3, 4, 5 and 6. All children have a passport and can gain ‘stamps’ for taking part in out of school learning activities at Learning Destinations. Depending on the number of hours completed, children can earn a bronze, silver or gold award. This will lead to them being able to graduate at the end of the school year and receive a certificate. Our year 6 children will graduate at Bournemouth University and all other KS2 children will graduate in school.

The children’s individual passports are kept in their classrooms but they are welcome to borrow them when they are planning on visiting a Learning Destination. Both staff at Learning Destinations and Bearwood staff are able to sign off hours in children’s passports, children will need to bring in evidence of the activity and time taken on the activity.

Learning destinations are places and organisations that children can take their ‘passport’ to and gain credits. The destinations have passed the Children’s University quality assurance.
